The Catholic Association of Sri Lanka in New South Wales has donated Rs. 2.4 million worth of CPAP-type ventilators

Aiming to strengthen the hospital system in Sri Lanka to face the Covid pandemic, The Sri Lanka Catholic Association in New South Wales, Australia donated 02 nos CPAP type ventilators worth of Rs. 2.4 MN to the Colombo North Teaching Hospital, Ragama and the Mannar District Hospital with the participation of Dr. Sudarshini Fernandopulle, State Minister for Primary Health Care, Epidemics and Covid Disease Control at the Ministry of Health yesterday (15).

Speaking on the occasion, the State Minister said that the Sri Lankan Catholic Association in New South Wales has taken steps to mobilize donors for patients’ care during the third wave of the Covid epidemic and to donate the most valuable equipment to the needy patients in Sri Lanka. The Minister also mentioned that the donation of a ventilator machine to the Kuliyapitiya Hospital earlier and the work done by these equipment were also recalled. The Minister further stated that this machine is considered to be a very valuable donation as it provides oxygen to those in need of oxygen who are unable to breathe due to Covid infection and the Government would like to thank them for making such a donation.

Dr. Rasika Liyanage was also present on behalf of the Ragama North Colombo Teaching Hospital to receive the donation and Dr. Yogeshwara, the Deputy Director of the Mannar District Hospital was also present to receive the donation. The donation was made by His Lordship Cletus Chandrasiri Perera, Bishop of Ratnapura to the relevant hospitals.

With the Intervention of Mr.Rukshan Anthony, President of the Catholic Association of Sri Lanka, New South Wales and it was co-ordinated in Sri Lanka by Mr. Raymon Fernando and Mrs. Agnes Peintu to make this donation.

His Lordship Bishop Cletus Chandrasiri Perera of Ratnapura was accompanied by Rev. Fr. Sri Lal Fernando, Rev. Fr. Jude Nicholas, Rev. Sister Tekla Fernando and officials from the Bioengineering Medical Unit of the Ministry of Health.
